It’s Sunday. I am thinking in a subtractive mode. Giving stuff away, ending subscriptions, lessening. (aspire to silence you coward)
Some stuff I happily avoid. Here are the GLAD OMISSIONS:
SPORTS, NEWS, GAMES, BARS, TV
And the exceptions: I watch two hours of television per week. Currently, Mad Men and The Killing. Waiting for Breaking Bad to start. I’m cynical & cautious towards TV series recommendations. I don’t watch any televised news. I don’t read any news in print or online, especially anything published by/in the New York Times, HARD RULE, except for Errol Morris’s stuff. I play a few videogames a year then get rid of them.
Sports are as arbitrary an activity as any, but sports fanaticism—mostly by dudes that don’t play the sport in question—weirds me out.
Dodging this stuff is why I have a lot of free time. Hence: publishing, writing, designing. What I don’t often omit is this node, internet. Sometimes to a fault. I am a glutton for sociality and culture. Culling that desire is my next task. (aspire to silence you coward)
